I’ve never been this nervous to release a project before. Maybe it’s because this is the first release for my new business. Or maybe it’s because I wrote this during a very transitional period in my life. During this time, it felt like I was a ghost of my former self. Like the old me had died.
Seeing people that look like you brutalized on the news every day both exposes the raw nerve and somehow numbs it simultaneously. It’s scary to know that I could leave the house living and return as a memory. As a ghost. It’s scary to think that if even Jesus himself had returned, he’d likely meet the same fate as Malcolm or Martin. What’s most terrifying is that the brutality is state-sponsored. Still. I found out a lot about myself while writing this project. I don’t know who the new person is that I’m going to be. But I do know that I’m finished being haunted by the specters of my past life. With this body of work, I’m simply stating the truth. Please do with that what you will.
